Intro

Welcome to my Workshop!
Where metal additive manufacturing meets the passion for bicycles.

About

My name is Daniel. Working as a mechanical engineer in the metal additive manufacturing industry in the area of Stuttgart, Germany, I spend some of my spare time with cycling and triathlon. In 2020, I started with the idea to bring metal 3D-printing to the world of cycling.

The Story

As an engineer with a deep-rooted love for bicycles, I recognized the potential to combine my profession and passion to create 3D printed bike parts.
It all began with the desire to push the boundaries of traditional bicycle component manufacturing, exploring new possibilities and leveraging the advancements in 3D printing technology.
Driven by the pursuit of excellence, I embarked on a journey to design and develop bicycle parts that not only enhance performance but also embody elegance, exclusivity and reliability. And of course - providing an alternative to carbon fibre ;-).
Started with the design of a bottle cage - I discovered in various prototypes what is possible - and what not.

Craftsmanship

Every single component which you find here is carefully designed and meticulously refined to meet the highest standards of quality and precision. My dedication to excellence is reflected in each piece I produced, as I meticulously refine every detail to ensure it surpasses expectations. By leveraging the cutting-edge capabilities of 3D printing technology, I have unlocked new realms of design freedom. This allows me to push the boundaries of what's possible in the world of bicycle components, creating parts that are not only lightweight and durable but also boast intricate geometries and elegant aesthetics.

Technology

Known by many names, laser powder bed fusion is one of the most common types of metal 3D printing. A machine distributes a fine layer of metal powder over a build plate. A laser selectively melts a cross section of the part into the powder layer. This is repeated thousands of times, micron by micron. The result: design freedomness and complexity for free.

Commitment

My passion drives me to constantly explore new ideas, materials, and manufacturing techniques to ensure that the components remain at the forefront of innovation. 3D printing allows the user to optimize material usage, minimize waste, and reduce our environmental footprint. By embracing this technology, I aim to contribute to a greener and more sustainable cycling industry.

Join the journey

From time to time I will provide more information about my work. I invite you to follow my journey. Whether you are interested in cycling, or in metal 3D printing, I believe you find some extraordinary content at geek3d.de focused on technology and cycling!

Work

  • Design study - Bottle cage titanium

Designed for all titanium enthusiasts out there!

This bottle cage is probably the first of its kind. It is 3D-printed and weighs only 27 grams. The titanium alloy used is a genuine high-end material that is typically used in aerospace applications.
The design is timeless and aesthetically pleasing, providing a harmonious contrast to any bicycle frame. The mounting position can be adjusted and therefore nearly any bike frame geometry fits for the bottle cage. The customizable surface finish ranges from grinded, polished to anodized and stands out in particular.
The combination of form and material, combined with the advantages of laser 3D printing, gives the bottle cage an incredible power-to-weight ratio. Extremely robust and resistant to impacts and shocks, the bottle is securely held in the bottle holder. Whether during fast descents, on unpaved roads, or cobblestones, every water bottle sits snug and secure due to the bottle being clamped by the open sides.

    Technical specification

    Name Description
    Type Bottle cage
    Material Ti64 titanium alloy
    Dimension 77 x 76 x 130 mm
    Weight 27g (+/- 2 g)
    Finish Sandblasted, grinded, anodized
    Compatibility All standard water bottles
  • Design study - Computer combi mount

The combi stem mount adapter is an extremely lightweight, ultra strong and durable piece of 3d-printed artwork.

With the variable mounting position it fits nearly any stem and reaches a broad compatibility.
One of the major benefits compared to other lightweight aero mounts is the downfacing GoPro mount. It is possible to either mount a camera, or a frontlight.
Summarized: the modern, elegant and sleek design, is optimized with and for 3D printing and adds a exclusive touch to any bikeframe on the street!
